Our Pillars
Education & Training
Through continuous innovation and collaboration, we equip counsellors with the skills and expertise needed to drive meaningful impact in the field of mental health.
Trained by professionals and achieving the highest counselling outcomes, our students become prepared to set new standards of excellence in care.
Since earning accreditation as a training centre in 1975, we have grown into the largest training facility in Western Canada. Our psychology, social work, and marriage and family therapy trainees gain hands-on experience that prepares them to serve communities across North America and beyond.
The Haskayne Learning Centre for Graduate and Post-Graduate Counselling Studies was named in 2009 in recognition of Dick and Lois Haskayne, whose generous support has helped strengthen our training initiatives.
In 2024, we welcomed 118 students into our training program, refining our blended orientation approach that combines online and in-person learning. This model ensures students gain practical skills in both in-person and online counselling, providing them with the flexibility to meet client needs in diverse settings.
Clinical Practice Seminars remain a key component of our training, offering students the opportunity to learn from seasoned professionals. Our staff counsellors actively contribute by facilitating seminars, supporting FIT training, and providing mentorship.
Since 2021, we have been developing an integrated framework for CCC clinical supervision, and its success continues to shape our approach to counsellor and supervisor training. In 2024, we shared our findings at the International Interdisciplinary Conference on Clinical Supervision and the Society for Psychotherapy Research, reinforcing our commitment to advancing best practices in clinical education.
